Low-Cal Carrot Halwa (Gaajar ka Halwa)

While traditional gaajar halwa can take anywhere between 2-21/2 hours to prepare, this recipe takes only 15-20 minutes! And it's healthy too. The best part is when you take a bite, you won't be able to tell the difference.

Recipe

  • 2 kilo(s) red carrots, grated
  • 250 grams sugar (adjust the quantity as per taste)
  • 250 grams mawa / khoa
  • 2 tablespoon(s) clarified butter (ghee)

For the Garnishing

  • almonds, chopped

Recipe

  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) cardamom powder

Low-Cal Carrot Halwa (Gaajar ka Halwa) Directions
  1. Crumble the mawa/khoa, chop the almonds and set aside.
  2. Grate the carrots, transfer into a thick bottom pan and cook over a medium flame till the juice from the carrots dry up.
  3. Now add sugar to release any additional water from the carrots and cook till the mixture dries up completely. Keep stirring to prevent the carrots from sticking to the pan.
  4. To this, add ghee and cook for 5 minutes. Then add crumbled mawa and cook over a medium flame. Keep stirring the mixture continuously for around 10 minutes or until the ghee begins to separate from the mixture and a few drops of it can be seen collecting on the sides of the pan. Remove from heat.
  5. Add the cardamom powder to the halwa and garnish with chopped almonds.
